I use a trauma informed lens to work with clients in my practice. I understand how both common and novel stressors can impact life, relationships, work and family. Therapy should be a place where you can show up as yourself (sometimes a more true version than you can in your day to day) with someone who will support you with compassion and honesty. I work with both children and adults with a variety of challenges and experiences. I have completed the Gottman level 1 certification and also work with couples.
I have been a board-certified music therapist for over 15 years. I have worked with people of all ages including children and adults with special needs, veterans and their families, those with TBI or stroke, as well as aging populations & hospice. I graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in Music Therapy and University of Northern Iowa with a Masters in Social Work. I have seen the power of music in their growth process, and I utilize music when helpful, but it is not included in all my sessions (and there’s no musical talent required).
I love to sing and play guitar, drums, and ukulele (and laugh about how I used to play trombone). I like to snuggle with my cat, cook, and play outside. I value seeing humor in every day life, and I would love to hear a good joke if you’ve got one!
